Nanjing is the capital of Jiangsu province and once was the capital of China. Nanjing ‘南京‘ means Southern Capital. Situated on the Yangtze river it has played an important role in Chinese history and has many great places to explore.
Population: Approx 10 million
Weather: Hot humid wet summers, cold winters with occasional snow. Spring and Autumn are very short.
Popular food: Duck blood soup, Salted or roasted duck, braised meatballs
Best areas to explore: Gulou, Pukou, Jiangning, Xuanwu, Qinhuai
Top things to do in Nanjing: The Nanjing City Walls, Purple Mountain, Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, Fuzimiao, Ming Era tombs, Porcelain Tower, Xuanwu Lake, Nanjing Massacre Museum, Librairie Avant-Garde.
Getting around Nanjing: Nanjing only has a few metro lines, so it’s easy to use. Most sights are located near these, but if not, taxis are reasonable.
